Events 22/23

Hastings Masters
A ten‐round accelerated* Swiss Pairing tournament from 28 December 2022 to 6 January 2023. This event will provide opportunities to qualify for titles and for the FIDE Rating List.
Rate of play
40 moves in 100 minutes, followed by all remaining moves in 50 minutes, with the addition of 30 seconds for each move from the start
Entry Fees
GM, IM, WGM, WIM – Free
FM, WFM ‐ £40
Players with FIDE ratings 2200 and above ‐ £80
Players with FIDE ratings below 2200 ‐ £120
Members of Hastings & St Leonards Chess Club; players residing in the Borough of Hastings; players under 18 or over 65 on 1 January 2023 ‐ £90

All players registered as England must be Gold or Platinum members of the ECF or pay an additional game fee of £12.00
Players not registered as England are required to have a FIDE identification number. If they do not, they must obtain one in advance from their Federation.
The Masters winner will hold the Golombek Trophy in name for one year.

* The Baku Acceleration system will be used only if entries exceed 100.
Players other than grandmasters may take a half‐point bye in any round of the Masters, apart from the last. Round notice must be given early on the previous evening.


Christmas Tournaments Morning/Afternoon
5‐round Swiss tournaments over five days (see Congress Schedule for start times) from Wednesday 28 December to Sunday 1 January 2023
The morning event will be in rating sections of – Open FIDE rated; U1900; U1700
The afternoon event will be in rating sections of – U2125; U1800; U1600
Entry Fee ‐ £37
Prizes (for each section) ‐ £300; £150; £75; plus a rating prize of £60
English entrants must be at least Gold ECF members for the Open and Silver ECF members for sections under 2125


New Year Tournaments Morning/Afternoon

The morning event will be in rating sections of – Open FIDE rated; U1900; U1700
The afternoon event will be in rating sections of – U2125; U1800; U1600

Hastings Weekend Tournament
FIDE Open; Major 1900 and under; Intermediate 1750 and under; Minor 1600 and under

Entry Fee (for all sections) ‐ £37
Prizes ‐ (for all sections) – £500; £250; £125; plus a rating prize of £75
Open Tournament – FIDE rated. All English entrants must quote their FIDE number and be at least a Gold ECF member. Other entrants are required to be
members of a national federation affiliated to FIDE. For the other weekend tournaments (Major, Intermediate, Minor) English entrants must be at least a Silver ECF member.


Rate of Play (applies to all the tournaments on this page)
All moves in 110 minutes, with an extra 10 seconds for each move. Each player must keep score until the time remaining on their clock has dropped below five minutes. Once a player has stopped scoring under this rule, they do not need to resume scoring if their time then increases to above five minutes.

Default time
Players arriving 30 minutes or more after the start of a session in any tournament shall lose by forfeit, unless the arbiter decides otherwise.
