Hastings Masters
A ten‐round accelerated* Swiss Pairing tournament from 29 December 2021 to 7 January 2022
This event will provide opportunities to qualify for titles and for the FIDE Rating List.
Rate of play
40 moves in 100 minutes, followed by all remaining moves in 50 minutes, with the addition of 30 seconds for each move from the start

GM, IM, WGM, WIM – free [for conditions contact Alex McFarlane Email: HICCconditions@hastingschess.club]; FM, WFM ‐ £40; players with FIDE ratings 2200 and above ‐ £80; players with FIDE ratings below 2200 ‐ £120; members of Hastings Chess Club; players residing in the Borough of Hastings; players under 18 or over 65 on 1 January 2022 ‐ £90
All players registered as England must be Gold or Platinum members of the ECF or pay an additional game fee of £11.00. Players not registered as England are required to have a FIDE identification number. If they do not, they must obtain one in advance from their Federation.
The Masters winner will hold the Golombek Trophy in name for one year.
Prizes
£2,500; £1,250; £750; £500; £350; £250; £200.
There will also be Rating Prizes of £750 for Under 2400; Under 2200; Under 2050; Under 1900; a FIDE Veteran’s prize £500; FIDE Women’s prizes £650 and £350
Players, other than grandmasters, may take a half‐point bye in any round of the Masters apart from the last. Notice must be given early on the previous evening. This is particularly suitable on New Year’s Day.

Christmas Tournament Morning/Afternoon
5‐round Swiss tournaments over 5 days (see this page for start times) Wednesday 29 December to Sunday 2nd January 2022
The Morning event will be in rating sections of Open FIDE-rated/U1900/U1600; the Afternoon event will be in rating sections of U2125/U1825/U1525
Entry Fee ‐ £35
Prizes (for each section) ‐ £300, £150, £75 plus a rating prize of £60
English entrants must be ECF members at least Gold level for the open and Silver level for sections under 2125
New Year Tournaments Morning/Afternoon

The Morning event will be in rating sections of Open FIDE-rated/U1900/U1600; the Afternoon event will be in rating sections of U2125/U1825/U1525

Prizes (for each section) ‐ £300, £150, £75 plus a rating prize of £60.
English entrants must be ECF members of at least Gold level for the open and Silver level for sections under 2125
Hastings Weekend Tournament
5‐round Swiss tournaments over 2 days (see this page for start times) Saturday 8th January to Sunday 9th January

Entry Fee ‐ £35
Prizes ‐ £500, £250, £125, plus a rating prize of £75
Open Tournament – FIDE rated. All English entrants must quote their FIDE number and be at least a Gold member of the ECF.
Other entrants are required to be members of a national federation affiliated to FIDE.
Major – U1975
Intermediate – U1750
Minor – U1525
For the other weekend tournaments (Major, Intermediate, Minor) English entrants must be at least a Silver member of the ECF.
Rate of play (applies to Christmas, New Year & Weekend events)
All moves in 110 minutes, with an extra 10 seconds for each move. Each player must keep score until the time remaining on their clock has dropped below five minutes. Once a player has stopped scoring under this rule, they do not need to resume scoring if their time then increases to above five minutes.
Default time
Players arriving 30 minutes or more after the start of a session in any tournament shall lose by forfeit, unless the arbiter decides otherwise.
