Events ‘23/24

Hastings Masters
A nine‐round Swiss tournament from 28 December 2023 to 5 January 2024.

Rate of play
40 moves in 100 minutes, followed by all remaining moves in 50 minutes, with the addition of 30 seconds for each move from the start.

Entry Fees
GM, IM, WGM, WIM – Free
FM, WFM ‐ £60
Players with FIDE ratings 2200 and above ‐ £80
Players with FIDE ratings 2000 and above ‐ £120
Players with FIDE ratings 1800 and above  – £130
Players with FIDE ratings below 1800 – £140

All players registered as England must be Gold or Platinum members of the ECF or pay an additional game fee of £12.00
Players not registered as England are required to have a FIDE identification number. If they do not, they must obtain one in advance from their Federation.
The Masters winner will hold the Golombek Trophy in name for one year.

Prizes

There will also be Rating Prizes of £250 for – 2400 to 2201; 2200 to 2051; 2050 to 1901; 1900 and under. 
Female: £500 – £300 – £150. 
Players other than grandmasters may take a half‐point bye in any round of the Masters, apart from the last. Round notice must be given early – please refer to Information page.

Con Power Christmas Tournaments 
Three 6-round Swiss tournaments over four days (see Congress Schedule for start times) from Thursday 28 December to Sunday 31 December 2023
Under 2250:  Entry Fee – £40  FIDE rated.
Prizes – £450; £300; £200; £150; £100; plus a rating prize
Under 1950: Entry Fee – £37  FIDE rated.
Prizes – £350; £250; £200; £100; £75; plus a rating prize
Under 1650: Entry Fee – £35
Prizes – £300; £200; £150; £100; £75; plus a rating prize 

English entrants must be at least Gold ECF members for the U2250 and U1950 events, and Silver ECF members for the U1650.

New Year Tournaments Morning/Afternoon
5‐round Swiss tournaments over five days (see Congress Schedule for start times) from Monday 1 January 2024 to Friday 5 January 2024
The morning event will be in rating sections of Under 2000 (FIDE rated) and Under 1800.
The afternoon event will be in rating sections of Under 1900 (FIDE rated) and Under 1700.
Entry Fee (all sections) ‐ £30
Prizes (all sections) ‐ £250; £150; £100; £75; plus a rating prize.

English entrants must be at least Gold ECF members for the U2000 and U1900 events, and Silver ECF members for the U1800 and U1700 events.

Hastings Weekend Tournament
There will be four sections – FIDE Open; Major (1900 and under); Intermediate (1750 and under); Minor (1600 and under).

Entry Fee (for all sections) ‐ £37
Prizes ‐ (for all sections) – £500; £250; £125; plus a rating prize of £75

Open and Major Tournaments – FIDE rated. All English entrants must quote their FIDE number and be at least a Gold ECF member. Other entrants are required to be
members of a national federation affiliated to FIDE. For the Intermediate and Minor tournaments English entrants must be at least a Silver ECF member.
 
Rate of Play (Con Power; New Year; Weekend Tournament, all sections)
All moves in 110 minutes, with an extra 10 seconds for each move. Each player must keep score until the time remaining on their clock has dropped below five minutes. Once a player has stopped scoring under this rule, they do not need to resume scoring if their time then increases to above five minutes.

Default time
Players arriving more than 30 minutes after the start of a session in any tournament shall lose by forfeit, unless the arbiter decides otherwise.
